Adi Kailash, second in the Panch Kailashas, the second abode of Lord Shiva, and considered a replica of Mount Kailash or the place where Lord Shiva meditated for ages. Hindu scriptures quote, Lord Shiva made Adi Kailash, the first halt for his baraat, when he came to Rudraprayag to marry Maa Parvati.

Spiritual Significance of Adi Kailash-Om Parvat

Beliefs say, King Ravana was blessed with 10 heads, power, and strength here, in Adi Kailash, after his intense tapasya to impress Lord Shiva. Even Pandavas and Adi Shankaracharya visited Kailash Mansarovar via this route and fulfilled their tapasya. Darshan of Adi Kailash can bring an update to your Life, purifying your karmic cycle.
Om Parvat is one of the rare sights ever to have been found, with a natural image of Om (a symbol of good luck in Hinduism, representing the space in this universe, ‘Shunya’) being imprinted on a mountainside being beautifully highlighted by snow. According to the Puranas, there are a total of eight such naturally existing structures of Om, yet only one has been found that exists in the shared borders of three countries, Nepal, China, and India. The front face of Om can be witnessed only in India, from Nabhidang Viewpoint (4300 m).

Before the construction of the new road, travellers used to trek approximately 200 km from Dharchula and descend the same distance towards Dharchula. Earlier few mountaineering groups were given permission/permit to scale the Holy Adi Kailash, but now, after the opening of Lipulekh Pass and raising awareness among locals, the administration, as well as local people do not support climbing over the holy peak of Adi Kailash. You can trek up to Gauri Kund and touch the feet of Adi Kailash Parvat and receive divine blessings of Lord Shiva.

Adi Kailash, the second home to Lord Shiva, is believed to be the place where Lord Shiva's Baarat from Mount Kailash headed towards Rudraprayag, the very first halt taken by them was in Adi Kailash. It is believed that Lord Shiva taught the art and the principles of Yoga to rishis and sages here, and was given the title of Adiyogi. It is for this reason, this mountain is known as Adi Kailash, where even King Ravana did tapasya and performed penance here to please Lord Shiva, who was later blessed with 10 heads, numerous powers and strength.

Whereas, Om Parvat, one of the rarest wonders of the world, or the sound of the Universe, is revered and considered a Holy symbol or beej-mantra to chant in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. The Symbol of Om (ॐ) can be naturally witnessed and seen taking a shape in the mountain, which is built without any human intervention. One can witness the inscription of Om on a clear day, with a sense of connectivity experienced in the region of Nabhidhang, looking at Om. Just a sight of Mount Adi Kailash and Om Parvat can cleanse your karmic cycle.

Adi Kailash is considered to be a replica of Mount Kailash, hence, Adi Kailash is popularly known as Chhota Kailash or Baba Kailash. There is a total of 5 mountains/Panch Kailash in the world where you can feel the presence of Lord Shiva. Here's a list of the places:

  1. Mount Kailash Mansarovar in Tibet (China)
  2. Adi kailash/Chhota kailash/Baba kailash in Jolingkong (Uttarakhand)
  3. Manimahesh kailash/Chamba kailash in Chamba (Himachal Pradesh)
  4. Shrikhand Mahadev in Kullu district (Himachal Pradesh)
  5. Kinnaur Kailash Yatra in kinnaur Valley (Himachal Pradesh)

Shared by three countries Nepal, China and Tibet, Mount Om or Om Parvat can be seen only from India. Nabhidhang is the viewpoint, located in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. One can feel the divine Om mantra 432 Hz being echoed in the region with its presence. The Om parvat trek route lies en route Kailash Parvat trail and is approximately 70-80 km from Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar. Hindus and Buddhists believe that Kailash Parvat is the centre of the earth. Earlier, the Om Parvat trek distance from dharchula was 110 km one sided but now it has been reduced to a bare minimum, as one can have darshan of Om Parvat while sitting in the vehicle itself (all thanks to the new road network).

Both Adi Kailash and Om Parvat are considered sacred pilgrimage sites in Hinduism.

The story of Adi Kailash:
Adi Kailash or Chota Kailash in Uttarakhand, also known as Baba Kailash, is the second dham of the Panch Kailash. The first halt of the Shiv barat started from the Mountain Kailash towards Rudraprayag . Ravan was blessed with different boons in Adi Kailash, which has also been visited by many great Rishis and Munis like Ved Vyas and Adi Shankaracharya during their time. Adi Kailash's darshan can enlighten your inner self, and the cosmic energy prevalent here can transform a person with negative thoughts into a positive thinker.

The secret/mystery of Om Parvat:
It is the only mountain among such eight mountains in India that has been discovered with the natural imprint of Om (ॐ) in it..The rahasya of Om Parvat, or the secret of Om Parvat, is that, it is the natural existing mountain with the shape of Om on it without any human intervention. Om is the sound of the universe (anhad naad/swar), and Om Parvat is the personification of the anhad naad.

Om Parvat/mountain is in India with its shared territories in Nepal and China, having a naturally formed shape of Om on it, which is visible from India. Whereas, Kailash Mansarovar is the first important mountain in Panch Kailash, located in Tibet, China, and is considered the abode of Lord Shiva.

Adi Kailash stands tall at a height of 5945 meters above sea level near the Indo-Tibet border with the last village of India- Kuti. Om Parvat stands at the height of 5543 meters above sea level on the Indo-Nepal border. The highest altitude on the Adi Kailash & Om Parvat Yatra up to which people go is Parvati Sarovar, which is 4501 meters above sea level and Nabhidang view point for Om Parvat at 4300 metres.

According to the Puranas, Adi Kailash history holds great importance as it was the major halt of Lord Shiva’s barat during his marriage with Mata Parvati, which originated from Kailash Parvat Mansarovar. It is said that the demon king Ravana, who was one of the fiercest devotees of Lord Shiva, meditated here for a very long period and was later blessed with immense power, strength, and 10 heads. Not only Ravana, but as history says, the Pandava Brothers and the Sage Vyas also meditated here at Adi Kailash for a very long time.

Adi Kailash is renowned as the abode of Lord Shiva and his family, as per Hindu beliefs, and is believed to be the place where Lord Shiva did Tapasya, considered to be the first stoppage of the Shiva Parvati Barat. Apart from the darshan of Adi Kailash and Om parvat you will also get the opportunity to visit Chitai Golu Devta Temple which is popularly known as the God of Justice, it is believed that in case you have an ongoing legal case; if you make a wish in this temple then your wish will be granted and you shall be given justice. Others are Jageshwar temple, believed to be the place where Adi Shankaracharya, Saptrishi, and Lord Shiva himself performed Tapasya. According to beliefs, the very first shivling of the world is erected in Jageshwar Dham, and Patal Bhuvaneshwar, wherein it is considered that taking a blessing here is equivalent to taking a blessing of Chota Char dham.

Holy significance: It is said that Adi Kailash & Om Parvat yatra washes away the sins, thus restoring one's Karma cycle. The cosmic energy that is prevalent here will make you feel the divinity at its par. With the recitation of Om Namah Shivay and Om Parvati Pataye Namah, yatris believe that they feel a direct spiritual connection with Lord Shiva in the region.
