Chardham Yatra FAQs

Kedarnath trek is 20 km long, which takes approximately 8 hours to complete. The starting point is Gaurikund, where pilgrims can take a dip before continuing their journey towards Kedarnath Temple. One can also hire pony/porter services at additionally payable charges to make the trek convenient.

Remember to keep an energy drink, some dry fruits and plenty of water along with you while trekking through the trails.

The Badrinath route is motorable, hence it does not require trekking. However, there is a footbridge that one has to cross to reach the temple and to avoid congestion. The vehicles leave you 300 meters past the bridge, from where you have to walk further (not too much).

Thousands of pilgrims trek to Kedarnath Dham every year while immersed in the devotion of Bholenath. At the same time, others book their shuttles and fly directly to the temple. However, it's a paradise-alike spot for trekking enthusiasts. The track becomes slippery and a bit risky to ascend, and for this reason, Kedarnath and other dhams of Uttarakhand remain closed during the monsoon season.

The route is non-motorable, and the last drop point is Janaki Chatti, from where one has to trek for 6 km to reach the Yamunotri Temple, which takes 2-3 hours to complete. You can also hire a palki/pony from there, in case you're unsure of trekking.

Compared to Kedarnath trek, the Yamunotri trek is less difficult. Most of the trail is concrete, but there are some steep sections that one should watch out for. The path is approximately 8 ft wide, so it gives plenty of space for pilgrims to walk, but the horses and the pilgrims use the same trail, so one should be careful.
