Dharchula

Dharchula is among one of the must visit and recommended places in the Kumaon Region of Uttarakhand, where one can explore and experience a great reflection of the rich and diverse culture in the state. Dharchula, located at an elevation of 915 meters, is known to be a major stopover for Adi Kailash Yatra. Yes of course Trekking is one of the major adventure activities here at Dharchula that can be enjoyed here with it being one of the major base points for many short and long treks. Encircled by the huge towering mountains, nestled in a verdant valley on the banks of the Kali river, Dharchula offers you a mesmerizing and beautiful panoramic view of the mighty Panchachuli peaks to its west.

Across the river Mahakali, neighboring country Nepal also has a district with a similar name, Darchula which acts as the natural border between India and Nepal over a long stretch. People of both the two towns share similar traditions, culture, and lifestyle, and can move across the border without a passport or visa. Hence, Dharchula has been an ancient trading town on this route. 

Location of Dharchula:

Dharchula is culturally rich and a perfect picturesque hill station situated on the bank of Kalinadi River in the Pithoragarh District of Uttarakhand. Dharchula is about 92 km from Pithoragarh. The journey from Pithoragarh to Dharchula is about a 3 to 4 hour drive alongside the River Kali.

Weather in Dharchula:

Once you are in Dharchula, you will witness great variation in the climate conditions, the summers will be scorching hot and the winter season will be freezing cold. The favourable climatic conditions and the less human interference has allowed the lush greenery vegetation of this region to thrive. You can easily see many trees of oak, pine, apple and deodar. So, the ideal time to visit Dharchula is  before the monsoon season (May to June) and at the end of the monsoon season till the onset of the winter season (September to December).
