The Peaks of Purity & Their Significance
This circuit is the "crown jewel" of Eastern Himalayan travel. It’s rugged, remote, and rewards you with views that no postcard can do justice to.
- Lachen: Sitting at 2,750 meters, this is a quiet, stone-walled village that feels like a gateway to another world. It serves as your base for the journey to Gurudongmar Lake (17,200 ft)—a lake so sacred that a portion of it never freezes, even in peak winter, believed to be blessed by Guru Padmasambhava.
- Lachung: A picturesque hamlet split by the roaring Lachung Chu river. This is where you head to find the Yumthang Valley, the ‘Sikkim Valley of Flowers,’ where the Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary paints the mountains in shades of red and pink.
- Gangtok: The capital city is your comfortable anchor, where the legend of 'Baba' Harbhajan Singh at the Indo-China border adds a layer of patriotic grit to your spiritual journey.
Health Note: Gurudongmar Lake is at a very high altitude (17,200 ft). Visitors with heart or breathing issues and children under 5 are advised to consult a doctor. Foreign nationals are currently only permitted up to Chopta Valley.
Permits: Please carry 5 passport-size photos and an original Voter ID/Passport. Aadhar Cards are generally not accepted for North Sikkim permits.

Overview
If there is a place where the earth meets the sky in a silent, icy embrace, it is North Sikkim. This 6-day expedition by Trip to Temples is not just a holiday; it is an entry into the raw, untouched wilderness of the Indo-Tibetan border. From the cafe-lined streets of Gangtok to the turquoise divinity of Gurudongmar Lake, we take you through landscapes that change from lush green forests to high-altitude cold deserts in just a few hours.
The best time to visit is from April to June when the rhododendrons are in full bloom (10 to 25 degree Celsius), or October to November for crystal clear mountain views (0 to 15 degree Celsius). While winters (December–February) are magical with heavy snow, temperatures can drop to -10 degree Celsius in Lachen, making it a trip for the brave-hearted. With Trip To Temples managing your permits and mountain-certified vehicles, all you need to do is breathe in the pure Himalayan air.
