Badrinath & Kedarnath: The Union of Shiva and Vishnu
The sacred shrines of Kedarnath and Badrinath form the spiritual backbone of the revered Char Dham Yatra. Nestled in the mighty Garhwal Himalayas, both Dhams are believed to grant liberation (Moksha) to devotees.
Kedarnath Dham, situated at 3,583 meters, is one of the twelve sacred Jyotirlingas. According to the Mahabharata, the Pandavas performed penance here to please Lord Shiva. He manifested as a bull, and the hump of that form is worshipped as the Jyotirlinga. Badrinath Dham, located at 3,133 meters, is dedicated to Lord Vishnu in His Badri Narayan form. Mythological accounts state that Vishnu meditated here while Goddess Lakshmi protected Him in the form of a Badri (Jujube) tree. Together, these shrines symbolize the destruction of ignorance and the preservation of righteousness, offering a complete spiritual cycle from the banks of the Mandakini to the Alaknanda.
