Believed to be the spiritual center of the universe, Mount Kailash is revered in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism & Bon. From its slopes flow rivers that sustain millions.
These rivers symbolize the flow of karma, consciousness, & cosmic balance, a divine system designed to sustain life across vast regions.
The Indus begins from the north face of Kailash, flowing northwest into India & then to Pakistan. It nurtured the ancient Indus Valley Civilization & continues to support life today.
Emerging from the western side of Kailash, the Sutlej flows through Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. In Hindu texts, it is linked to the goddess Shatadru.
Originating from the eastern side, the Yarlung Tsangpo becomes the deadly Brahmaputra in India. Its fierce currents mirror the spiritual force of the region.
Karnali begins on the south face of Mount Kailash. It merges with the Ghaghara & eventually contributes to the sacred Ganga, India’s holiest river.
It’s a unique global phenomenon, four major rivers originating from a single mountain, each flowing in different directions, north, south, east, & west.
