Nag Panchami, a sacred Hindu festival dedicated to the serpent gods, is celebrated every year in the month of Sawan. Nag Panchami 2025 will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 29th, the auspicious Nag Panchami Puja Muhurat will be from 6:00 AM to 8:35 AM, lasting for 2 hours and 34 minutes.
Devotees worship Serpent Gods (Nag Devtas), offer prayers and milk to snakes. This ritual is believed to bring protection, prosperity, and blessings for one’s family’s well-being. Especially, women pray for the health and longevity of their brothers and loved ones.
The most revered serpent Gods include: Ananta, Vasuki, Shesha, Padma, Kambala, Karkotaka, Ashvatara, Dhritarashtra, Shankhapala, Kaliya, Takshaka, and Pingala.
It symbolizes respect for nature, protection from negative forces, and harmony with all living beings. It is also associated with stories of Lord Krishna subduing Kaliya Naag, which symbolizes victory over evil. Also believed that observing this day brings prosperity, safety from snake bites, and spiritual growth.
Celebrated a day before Nag Panchami, where devotees fast to honor Nag Devtas; also known as Nagul Chavithi in Andhra Pradesh, that coincides with the Soora Samharam festival of Tamil Nadu.
In Gujarat, the festival, known as Nag Pancham, is celebrated 15 days after other Indian states’ muhurat, i.e., during Krishna Paksha Panchami of Shravan month, just before Krishna Janmashtami, on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, as per the local lunar calendar.
“सर्वे नागाः प्रीयन्तां मे ये केचित् पृथ्वीतले। ये च हेलिमरीचिस्था येऽन्तरे दिवि संस्थिताः॥ ये नदीषु महानागा ये सरस्वतिगामिनः। ये च वापीतडगेषु तेषु सर्वेषु वै नमः॥”
